WEEK 9

13.04.09 De pistes zijn gesloten / The slopes are closed
Vanochtend besloot ik te kijken of Bodele nog open was, dus pakte ik m'n snowboard en ging ik naar Bodele. Na een flinke wandeling naar de piste toe merkte ik dat de pistes dicht waren. Nu ik er toch was, kon ik net zo goed naar boven hiken en nog een keer naar beneden gaan. Niet echt een succes, want de sneeuw was erg langzaam en slecht en op sommige plekken lag er zelfs modder. Na een uurtje dus maar weer naar Dornbirn terug gegaan, gedoucht en buiten op een kleedje in de tuin gaan liggen. Supermooi weer! Het is nu ongeveer elke dag zo'n 20 graden. Daar kan ik wel aan wennen =D Later kwam Laura ook even buiten en Saara. 's Avonds risotto gekookt voor Saara en Zaida en daarna geskypt met Petra, tijdens het zoeken naar vliegticket naar Amsterdam voor m'n zus d'r Masteruitreiking. Eindelijk een goedkoop ticket gevonden, dus meteen geboekt :) Later vanavond hebben we met z'n allen 'I'm not there' gekeken, de film over Bob Dylan. Dat was wel leuk! Na de film nog wat gedronken en toen allemaal maar gaan slapen.
This morning, I decided to check if Bodele was still open, so I took my snowboard and went there by bus. I walked all the way up to the slopes and found out that it was closed. Now I had walked all the way there, I didn't want to just turn around and go home, so I hiked up and snowboarded down. Not the very best idea in the world, because they actually close it for a reason =D The snow was very bad and slow and at some points, there was even some mud. So yeah, I went home and spent my afternoon on a blanket in our garden, chilling out in the sun. Laura joined me for a bit and then Saara also came downstairs to the garden. In the evening, I cooked some risotto for Saara, Zaida and me. After dinner, I skyped with Petra and checked for a flight to Amsterdam for my sister's Master graduation and I finally found a cheap ticket and booked it =D Later that night, we watched 'I'm Not There', the movie about Bob Dylan, in my room and had some drinks. After the movie we hung out here for a while and then all went to sleep.

 

14.04.09 Eten met Teresa en de groep / Having dinner with Teresa and the group
Vandaag een beetje rondgehangen buiten en in de tuin gezeten. Het weer is nog steeds ongelooflijk mooi! In de loop van de middag gingen we met een groepje van 6 meisjes winkelen in het grote winkelcentrum net buiten het centrum. Gezellig de H&M afgestruind en ik had een zwembrilletje gekocht, zodat ik m'n ogen niet zou uitbleken de volgende keer met zwemmen haha :) 's Avonds ging Teresa voor ons koken. Ze had taco's gemaakt. Nou kwam ik erachter dat echte taco's dus niet zo'n hard schelpje zijn, maar ze met een soort tortilla-achtig deeg gemaakt worden. Weer wat geleerd =D Het was in ieder geval heel lekker! Daarna ging ik nog even Skypen en vroeg slapen. Nog steeds een beetje moe van Italie denk ik!
Today I hung around in the garden a lot. It's still great weather! Somewhere in the afternoon we went to the big shopping mall with a group of 6 girls. So we did a tour through the H&M and similar stores haha :) I bought new swimming goggles, so I wouldn't bleach my eyes the next time I go swimming haha! In the evening, Teresa cooked for all of us. She made taco's, REAL taco's. Appearently, taco's are not those hard shell things, but they are more similar to tortilla's. But yeah, they were great =D

 

15.04.09 Freelancen en huiswerk doen / Freelance work and homework
Vanochtend heb ik met het andere Drupal-groepje van het programmeervak afgesproken om samen met Marko uit te leggen wat Drupal is. Aangezien wij allebei al met Drupal gewerkt hebben, konden we ze wel helpen :) Dus heb ik de hele ochtend gezellig op school gezeten! Werd ook wel weer eens tijd natuurlijk na zo'n 2 weken niks doen! :) Ik heb ook een freelance opdracht gekregen, dus daar heb ik ook een beetje mee zitten spelen toen ik thuiskwam. Voor de rest was ik druk bezig om de lay-out van onze Drupal website voor het programmeervak ergens op te laten lijken. Is best gelukt denk ik! Je kunt de site hier bekijken. Technisch gezien is ie nog niet af, maar qua vormgeving is 'ie denk ik wel al bijna af.
Today, I met up with the other Drupal-group from the programming course to explain them some things about Drupal together with Marko. We had both worked with that CMS before, so we could explain them some stuff :) When I got home, I worked on my homework a lot and on my freelance assignment that I've received today. I've worked on the lay-out for our Drupal website for the programming course. Technically, the website is not finished, but I think the lay-out is pretty much how I want it to be :) You can check out the website here.

 

16.04.09 Eindelijk weer naar school / Finally back to school
Vandaag had ik zowaar weer 'ns lessen! 's Middags had ik Creative Writing for Films, waar we onze antwoorden op een vragen-brainstorm sessie van vorige les moesten presenteren. Dat ging eigenlijk puur over The Hero's Journey (Joseph Campbell). Ik had die theorie al uitgelegd gekregen in Interactief Scenarioschrijven vorig blok, dus ik wist al wat het was. Blijkbaar dus als enige, dus mocht ik aan de klas (die vandaag zo'n 5 mensen was i.v.m. mooi weer) uitleggen wat The Hero's Journey was. Was wel tof! Direct daarna had ik The World Of Signs. Daar hebben we een beetje verder gewerkt aan ons symbolen systeem, maar het heeft nog niet echt een duidelijk vorm gekregen. Daar moeten we nog even over nadenken.
Today I actually had classes! In the afternoon, I had Creative Writing For Film. We had to present our answers to some questions we wrote down during a brainstorm session in the last lesson. Basically, that was all about The Hero's Journey by Joseph Campbell. I had already got some lectures about that, so I already knew what it was. Appereantly, I was the only one, so the teacher let me give the presentation about The Hero's Journey to the rest of the group (which was about 5 persons due to nice weather etc. =D). That was fun! Right after this course, I had to go to The World Of Signs, where we worked on our sign system a bit more. It doesn't have a real structure yet, but we'll have to work on that.

 

17.04.09 Auto gehuurd en langs mijn O'Neill collega's / Rented a car and visited my O'Neill colleagues
Vanochtend ben ik rond kwart over 6 opgestaan en met de bus richting de huurauto gegaan. Ik had ergens afgelopen week een auto gehuurd via Internet en die ging ik nu ophalen. Ik was anderhalf uur eerder, zodat ik misschien de auto eerder mee kon nemen en eerder kon vertrekken richting Kaprun. Kaprun ligt vlakbij Zell am See en dat is 4 uur rijden. Hoe eerder weg, hoe beter! De auto was super luxe en had allemaal coole features en knopjes op het stuur enzo =D Rond half 9 waren Travis, Robert en Saara ook ingestapt en lagen alle snowboards in de auto. Ik had wat richting aanwijzingen opgeschreven en wonder boven wonder kwamen we eerder dan gepland aan in Zell am See, zonder omweg en zonder verkeerde afslagen te nemen :) Kaprun was iets lastiger te vinden, althans... de lift naar de pistes in Kaprun was moeilijk te vinden. Veel liften waren al dicht. Uiteindelijk zijn we helemaal naar boven gereden, waar we de goede lift vonden. Boven stonden m'n collega's op me te wachten en was het super leuk! Iedereen was heel enthousiast en blij dat ik langs was gekomen en ik had het ook heel erg naar m'n zin! Zo leuk om iedereen weer te zien =D We hadden jammer genoeg maar 3 uur om te snowboarden, omdat we pas rond 1 uur aankwamen, maar toch was het super! Eerst met Laura en Bianca een paar pistes gedaan, daarna met Yvonne en daarna met Anisha naar de apres-ski gegaan over de rode piste :) Was echt super! Na de apres-ski reden wij naar hun hotel, waar we nog even op het terras hebben gezeten. Heel gezellig!! We mochten nog mee eten als we wilden, maar iedereen was nogal moe en dus reden we rond een uurtje of half 8 weg. De terugweg was officieel begonnen. Even wat gegeten bij de McDonald's onderweg en daarna weer snel door. Net voordat we de bergen uit waren, werd het vrij donker en was het moeilijk om de weg te zien. Dat was niet zo relaxed, maar gelukkig reed er ook bijna niemand en kon je zelf je snelheid bepalen :) Al snel waren we weer op de snelweg. Ondertussen was Saara wakker gebleven en waren we gezellig aan het babbelen. Rond een uurtje of half 1 reden we het parkeerterrein van de dorm weer op. Na 720 km gereden te hebben, kon ik m'n bedje in ieder geval wel echt waarderen haha!
Today I woke up around 6:15 to get the rental car from the rental office. I went there about 1,5 hours earlier to try if I could take the car earlier than 9 o'clock :) Fortunately, I could and I even got a bigger car than I paid for! I drove from the rental to the dorm and informed Travis, Robert and Saara that I was about one hour earlier haha. Around 8:30 we could drive off to Kaprun, where all my O'Neill colleagues were. Kaprun is near Zell am See and it's about 4 hours drive from Dornbirn, so we had quite a trip ahead! I quickly wrote some directions down on a piece of paper yesterday night and in a very miraculous way I arrived at Zell am See ahead on schedule without any detours or wrong exits! Yaay! It was quite difficult to find Kaprun actually. It was only 14 km away from Zell am See, but we only came across closed elevators up to the slopes. Finally, we found the right one! On top of the glacier, my colleagues were waiting and we had a great day!! So cool to see everyone again =D First, I did some runs with Laura and Bianca. Later I went off the slopes with Yvonne and I did the last run down the red track with Anisha, straight to the apres ski :) The people I hadn't seen at the slopes during the day were there as well, so that was really nice! After half an hour, the last elevator down was about to leave, so we drove to their hotel. We sat on the terrace there and had lots of fun! It really was a great day :) We were also invited to have some dinner there, but we were quite tired, so we went back on the road.. Let the trip back begin! We quickly ate something at the McDonald's in Zell am See and then drove off again. Saara stayed awake in the car for a long while, so that was nice! We had some really funny conversations and before I knew we were near Bregenz again. We arrived at the dorm around 12 o'clock, so that wasn't too bad! Still, I really appreciated my bed when I was back in my room. Maybe driving 720 km a day is a bit too much haha!

 

18.04.09 Concerten filmen in Zwitserland / Filming concerts in Switzerland
Vanochtend wilde ik dolgraag uitslapen, maar dat kon niet echt. De auto moest tussen 8 en 9 teruggebracht worden naar het kantoor buiten het centrum en bovendien moest ik 'm nog vol tanken. Daar eenmaal aangekomen was alles prima en kreeg ik de borg weer terug :) Omdat het zaterdag was en ik buiten het centrum was in een afgelegen gebied, ging er maar 1 bus in het uur en die had ik net gemist. Dus heb ik een flink eind gelopen naar de dorm. Daar aangekomen dook ik snel m'n bedje weer in. Vanmiddag moest ik naar Zwitserland om te filmen voor 2 concerten en ik had zo'n vaag idee dat ik daar misschien iets meer energie voor nodig had dan ik vanochtend had. Dus heb ik nog een paar uurtjes geslapen :) 's Middags met mede-studente Petra meegereden naar Zwitserland, samen met Bertl. Hans-Joerg en Claudia waren met een andere auto ook onderweg, dus we kwamen tegelijk aan. Het opzetten van alle apparatuur en camera's duurde zo'n 1,5 uur. Daarna de microfoons opgehangen en wat geoefend met de camera's tijdens de sound checks. Leuke bands! En de camera had ik vrij snel onder de knie, ookal was het de eerste keer dat ik met een professionele camera filmde. Rond een uurtje of 9 stond er eten voor 'ons' klaar (lees: alle back-stage mensen en bands) en zaten we gezellig pasta te eten met de bands. Rond 10 uur begonnen we met filmen. Het was echt heel tof! Rond een uurtje of 2 waren de concerten afgelopen en konden we beginnen met afbouwen. Uiteindelijk was ik rond 4 uur weer in de dorm en was ik best kapot.. Toch was het een super avond!
This morning I would have loved sleeping for a long time, but I had to bring back the car to the rental office between 8:00 and 9:00. I also had to fill up the tank first, so there wasn't too much time for sleeping :) When I finally go to the office around 8:30, everything was alright and I got the deposit back. Since I was somewhere outside Dornbirn in an area where nobody lives, there was only one bus each hour and I just missed that. So I had quite a walk back to the dorm. When I got there, I slept for a couple more hours. I had to go filming two concerts in Switzerland tonight and I really needed some more sleep to be able to do that =D Around 15:30, my fellow student Petra picked me up by car together with Bertl and we left to Hans-Joerg's place to drive off to the venue together with him and Claudia. When we got there, it took us about 1,5 hours to set up all the systems and camera's. During the sound checks with the bands, we had some time to play around with the camera's. Around 9 we ate some pasta upstairs in the backstage area with the other people from the crew and the bands, which was quite cool :) The first band, Violet Violet, started to play around 22:00 and I had my first experience with filming a concert. It was really cool! After that, there was a short break and a comedian, who in the end introduced the Nightingales. They were the main act of the evening and actually also the reason we came there for the filming. The concert was pretty cool and the camera shots were quite nice! The concert ended around 2 o'clock, so we could start wrapping up all the equipment around 2:30. In the end, I got home at the dorm around 4:00 and I was pretty wrecked.. Still it was a great evening!

 

19.04.09 Even een dagje rust / A day of resting
Ik werd rond 12 uur wakker vandaag en besloot maar uit bed te gaan. Ik was nog steeds kapot, maar ik vond het ook een beetje sneu om de hele dag te slapen haha! Na douchen en ontbijten maar een beetje muziek geluisterd, met m'n moeder gebeld, een beetje gitaar gespeeld en wat werk gedaan voor m'n freelance opdracht. 's Middags heb ik Australia gekeken. Perfecte film voor als je geen zin hebt om je echt te verdiepen in een film haha. Daarna hebben we met z'n allen chocolade paaseieren en paashaas gegeten in de keuken. Toen we de chocolade een beetje zat waren, heb ik met Saara, Zaida, Travis en Teresa Requiem for a Dream gekeken. Die had ik nog nooit gekeken, dus dat moest er dan ook maar 's van komen =D Best een shockerende film, maar wel tof gefilmd!
I woke up around 12:00 and decided I might as well get up. I was still really tired, but it's a bit lame to sleep the whole day. After having a shower and breakfast, I listened to some music and played some guitar. Then I called my mum and did some work for my freelance project afterwards. Later in the afternoon I watched Australia, which was perfect for the mood I was in =D After dinner we all sat in the kitchen and ate some chocolate Easter eggs and a chocolate easter bunny. Then we went to Saara's room and watched Requiem for a Dream. Pretty sick movie, but some really nice camera shots! And of course, there's a lot of great music in the movie.
