11.05.09 Daar krijg je wel spierpijn van / That does give you sore muscles
Haha ja en na zo'n dag of skateboard heb je dus wel spierpijn =D Heel relaxed. Na ontbijt even bij Saara en Zaida gechillt en besloten dat we wilden gaan winkelen vandaag. Ik wilde een cadeautje kopen voor mijn zus die bijna jarig is en Zaida wilde graag winkelen voor zomerse dingen, dus gingen we naar het Messepark winkelcentrum. Best een prima centrum :) Ik was na een uurtje ofzo wel klaar met mijn cadeautjes en Zaida was ook vrij snel klaar met winkelen, dus dat gaf tijd voor een vers fruitsapje bij de fruitbar! Dat is voor zover ik weet na 3 maanden in Dornbirn echt het ENIGE tentje dat verse fruitsappen verkoopt. En het is ook erg lekker :) Ik had een tropical smoothie genomen en betaald met alle eurocentjes die zich in mijn portemonnee hadden opgehoopt. Ze doen hier namelijk nog aan 1- en 2 eurocentjes. De verkoper blij, ik blij =D Na het messepark moesten we een beetje opschieten, want we hadden les vanmiddag. Even snel twee happen eten gegeten en toen door naar Duits, dat ik eerlijk gezegd alweer bijna vergeten was! Gelukkig belde Jaana me op of we samen naar de les zouden lopen :) Helaas zat ik toen met een lege maag bij Duits, dus die begon gezellig mee te praten. De les ging wel OK, al heb ik nog steeds echt niet het idee dat ik mezelf duidelijk kan maken in het Duits. Na de les dus snel naar huis gegaan om wat eten te maken (uurtje of 8), want ik begon nu echt bijna om te vallen!
Haha yeah and after that kind of a day with only skateboarding, you do have sore muscles =D Very nice. After breakfast, I went to Saara and Zaida and we decided to go shopping today. I wanted to buy some birthday presents for my sister and Zaida wanted to go shopping for summer stuff, so we went to Messepark. It's not an awesome shopping center, but it's pretty OK for these kind of things. After one or two hours we were both done with shopping, which gave us some time to go to the fruit bar. That really is the only place in Dornbirn where you can buy fresh fruit juices :) So I enjoyed my Tropical Smoothie and paid with all the small euro coints that were stashing up in my wallet. They still use the 1 and 2 eurocents coins here.. Shop happy, my wallet happy =D After the Messepark we kind of had to hurry, because I had to go to German course. Unfortunately, I forgot about that when I got to my room. I chilled out and just when I wanted to make some food, Jaana called me if we were going to German course together. Shit! So I was sitting in the classroom with an empty stomach, that was also trying to speak some German. The course was OK, but I still don't feel very comfortable with the language. After German class (around 8) I went home quickly to make some food!
12.05.09 Acht uur les op een dag is niet leuk / An eight hour course is not fun
Vandaag hadden we een lecture over 'Visuele Identiteit' van twee docenten uit Denemarken, die speciaal hiervoor over waren gekomen naar Vorarlberg. Het begon wel tof en de docenten, Mette en Ditlev, kwamen over als echte pro's in de wereld van Design. Ookal zei het rooster dat deze lezing 8 uur zou duren, ging ik er niet vanuit dat dat ook echt zo was. Natuurlijk. Acht uur les op een dag, dat moet je 's proberen vol te houden! Jammer genoeg moesten wij een essay schrijven over deze docent-uitwisseling en moesten we onze aandacht de volledige tijd erbij hebben. Het eerste gedeelte ging over Design en Identiteit en Corporate Identities, dus ik had geen probleem mijn aandacht daarbij te houden. Na de lunchpauze van een uur was ik een beetje gaar en schakelden de docenten over naar Marketing-achtige dingen. Niet dat dat niet interessant is, maar ik had het grootste gedeelte daarvan al een paar keer gehoord op school en dan is het best lastig om niet toe te geven aan een afgestorven concentratieboog. Toen we eindelijk naar huis mochten, begon het te regenen en onweren. Daar waren we allemaal niet op gekleed, dus iedereen kwam zeiknat thuis. Bovendien is skateboarden door de stortregen ook niet ideaal haha =D Eenmaal thuisgekomen gingen we chillen op Saara's kamer en kreeg ik een typisch Fins drankje van haar, die ze voor me had meegenomen uit Finland afgelopen weekend. Gin met limonade, briljant! Toen ik rond een uurtje of 1 riep dat ik ging slapen, liep ik de trap op, langs Travis' kamer, naar mijn kamer. "Yoooo what's up!?". Travis was aan het chillen met Sebastian en Chris en zaten met z'n 3en in zijn raam naar buiten te kijken. Dus schoof ik daar nog even aan en hadden we heel veel lol. Rond een uurtje of 3 ging ik uiteindelijk toch maar echt naar mijn kamer, want morgen zou ik helpen bij Saara's fotoshoot en het was een beetje jammer als ik daar m'n ogen niet open kon houden! :)
Today we had a lecture about 'Visual identity' by two teachers from Denmark, who came to Vorarlberg especially for this lecture. It's kind of a teacher-exchange. Mette and Ditlev, the teachers, seemed to be real pro's in Design and it all started off very interesting. Even though the schedule said that this was going to take 8 hours, I didn't expect it to actually take 8 hours. Try to concentrate on a lecture for eight freaking hours! That's just impossible, so I assumed that was a mistake. Unfortunately, it wasn't :) The first half of the day was pretty cool and Ditlev taught us a lot about Design and corporate identities. After the lunch break, we were all kind of having a moment of tiredness and right at that moment, the subject of the lecture changed to marketing related things. Not that Marketing is not interesting, but if you've heard those things a couple of times before it is quite hard not to give in to your dying concentration span. When we were released from class, it started raining really really heavily and storm. We weren't dressed for this weather, because it was great weather in the morning, so we all arrived at the dorm soaking wet from the rain. Also it's not ideal to skateboard in the rain, but it was quite fun! Back at the dorm, I hung out at Saara's room. She brought a typical Finnish drink for me from her weekend in Finland: Gin with lemonade in a can. Perfect =D I stayed there until around 1 o'clock, because I was gonna to go bed. When I walked up the stairs to my room, I passed Travis' room. "Yooo what's up!?". Travis was chilling out in his window with Sebastian and Chris. So I joined them for a while and we had lots of fun. I went to my room around 3 o'clock, because I was getting really tired and I was supposed to help Saara out with her photo shoot tomorrow :) It would be nice if I was awake tomorrow then!
13.05.09 Fotoshoot met Saara / Photoshoot with Saara
Vanochtend voelde ik me verrassend fit =D Jammer genoeg kwam daar snel verandering in. Ik had afgelopen week ijsthee van de Spar gekocht en daar had ik zin in. Na een glas in een keer opgedronken te hebben en weer bijgevuld voor bij m'n ontbijt, kwam ik er na anderhalf glas achter dat er iets in mijn ijsthee dreef. Daar wordt je maag niet gelukkig van zegmaar! Toen m'n maag eenmaal weer tot stilstand was gekomen en ik het gevoel had dat ik de deur uit kon, ging ik naar Saara toe in de fotostudio van school. Daar gingen we de belichting klaarmaken voor haar fotografieproject. De studio is echt SUPER vet met alle mogelijke materialen en snufjes. Eerst ging ze wat foto's van mij maken om te checken of de belichting goed was en toen mocht ik de Make-up Artist spelen voor de anderen. Het was namelijk de bedoeling dat ze er een beetje in elkaar geslagen uitzagen. Ik had het niet achter mezelf gezocht, maar dat ging goed! De rest van de dag hebben we foto's gemaakt van Zaida en Jaana en de foto's bekeken om te kijken of alles scherp was. Na de shoot begon het wederom te regenen en mocht ik weer met mijn skateboard door de regen haha! Tijdens Saara's pizza's hebben we alle foto's bekeken en ze zijn best tof geworden!
This morning when I woke up, I felt surprisingly awake =D Unfortunately, that was about to change quite soon. I bought some cheap ice tea a couple of days ago, so I drank a glass of it at once. Then I refilled it, so I had something to drink with my breakfast. After almost finishing my second glass, I looked at the glass and noticed that there was something drifting in my ice tea. I can tell you that that doesn't make your stomach happy. After about half an hour, I felt like I was ready to go outside and I went to school to help Saara with her photo shoot. The photo studio in the University here is awesome, there's so much equipment! We set up the lighting first and then I was the try-out to check if the lighting was OK. The rest of the day, I was the make-up artist which was unexpectedly something I could actually do haha! Surprised myself there =D We stayed in the studio the whole day and made a lot of pictures of Jaana and Zaida, being victims of a crime. Afterwards we went home to eat something and checked all the pictures while eating Saara's pizza's. There were some really cool pictures!
14.05.09 Pannenkoeken met Sangria / Pancaked with Sangria
Vandaag stond alles in het teken van het pannenkoekenfeest vanavond. Robert had beloofd nog een keer pannenkoeken te maken voor iederen, maar ook echt iedereen zou komen. Omdat we het dan over een vrij grote groep hebben, had ik aangeboden om 'm te helpen. Eerst moest ik langs school voor English for Applications, waar we ons Engelse cv aan het maken zijn. Daarna ging ik boodschappen doen bij de Lidl met Robert en Sebastian. Toen werd ik gebeld door Raphaela of ik haar wilde helpen met hun drupal website. (Daar komt inderdaad geen einde aan, mocht je een trouwe lezer van mijn blog zijn en denken "Alweer?!"). Toen bleek dat ik 's avonds ook nog les had en dat was ik even vergeten. Eenmaal thuis moest ik snel naar de keuken om Robert te helpen met bakken. Uiteindelijk zaten we met zo'n 23 man in de keuken aan de appel-banaan-rozijnen pannenkoenen en sangria van de Spaanse meisjes. Dat was supertof! Iedereen vond de pannenkoenen gelukkig ook heel lekker. Daarna gingen we de spekpannenkoeken maken, die nog meer in trek zijn bij het internationale gezelschap. Quote van Jerry: "Er is maar een soort pannenkoeken en dat zijn spekpannenkoeken." Na de pannenkoeken voelde ik me inmiddels zelf ook een pannenkoek, want het was zoooo warm boven de pannen in de keuken, dus ging ik buiten chillen met Laura en Silvia. Gezellig muziek geluisterd uit alle landen en gekletst. Ook nog fanatiek getafeltennist met Sebastian, Chris en Harvinder (uit India). Die gasten zijn echt supergoed!
Today was all about the pancake party tonight. Robert promised to make pancakes for everyone, but the thing was that everyone really was coming tonight. That's around 25 people and that is a lot of pancakes, so I offered to help him baking them. First, I had to go to school for English for Applications, where we are working on our English CV. After that, I went to the Lidl with Robert and Sebastian. Then Rapheala called me if I could help her out with the Drupal website again, so I went back to school for some geeking. While we were still working on the website, I found out that I actually had a class tonight and had to run over there. Quite a busy day! After the class, which we hadn't prepared anything for because we thought it was postponed, I went home quickly to help Robert out with baking all the pancakes. It was such a big pile of pancakes that the pile almost fell over at one point haha! The first pancakes were apple, banana and raisins and everybody seemed to like them a lot :) The Spanish girls made some sangria for everyone in the kitchen (about 20 people) and it was really nice! Then Robert and I started to bake the bacon pancakes, which are obviously the favourite pancakes of the everyone here haha. After the pancakes I kind of felt like a pancake myself, because it was freaking hot above the pans!! So I went outside with Laura and Silvia and brought some music :) I also played some ping pong with Chris, Sebastian and Harvinder (the guy from India). They were too good at ping pong! After a couple of matches I went back to Laura and Silvia to chill out :)
15.05.09 Bezoek en feesten met z'n allen / Visitor and partying with the whole group
Vandaag kwam Jan langs bij Teresa. Die hadden elkaar ontmoet tijdens de hikingtocht van vorige week. Nou moet je je even inbeelden: Jan is 1.99m en blond, Teresa is relatief groot voor Mexicaanse begrippen maar nog steeds vrij klein en donker haar. Grappige combinatie om te zien =D Anyway, Jan was vanuit Liechtenstein hierheen gelift en zou vandaag met Teresa chillen en dan hier uitgaan en morgen teruggaan. Eerst gingen we met z'n allen naar het winkelcentrum om boodschappen te doen voor de barbecue vanavond. We waren uitgenodigd om bij Sabrina, een van de Oostenrijkse meisjes, te komen barbecuen. Dus zochten we wat lekkere kippetjes uit en deden we een warenonderzoek met de plaatselijke goedkope biertjes uit blik. Eenmaal thuis, rond 3 uur, moest ik nog ontbijten en maakte ik wat croissantjes terwijl Teresa zich uitsloofde op echte Mexicaanse burritos. Zo'n vijf minuten na mijn ontbijt kreeg ik een burrito toegeschoven en had ik mijn lunch ook meteen gehad haha! Makkelijk =D Even 'for the record': Mexicaanse burritos zijn trouwens toch wel echt anders dan degene die wij maken. Aan het eind van de middag ging ik zwemmen met de Spaanse meisjes en konden we het weer niet laten om van de glijbaan te gaan haha. Supercool ding! Ook nog daadwerkelijk even fanatiek gezwommen :) Eenmaal thuis snel douchen, omkleden en mijn hamburgers maken voor de barbecue! Sabrina kwam ons ophalen en bracht ons naar haar huis: supergroot met een schattig buitenhuisje in de tuin waar we gingen eten. Ze had ook een vet lieve hond, die mij blijkbaar net zo lief vond, want na een uurtje ofzo sprong ie spontaan bij me op schoot haha! Na een superlekkere barbecue-sessie en huisgemaakte Oostenrijkse schnaps gingen we maar weer 's op huis aan. Nouja huis, Pavilion. Na de Pavi had ik het eigenlijk wel weer gezien, maar ik moest mee naar de Sohm. "Okeeee, voor een uurtje dan." We kwamen thuis rond een uurtje of 5 haha!
Today, Jan (a guy from the Czech Republic she met at the hiking trip last week) was going to visit Teresa. Of course that is all very exciting! Jan hitch hiked to Dornbirn and chilled out with Teresa in the kitchen. When I woke up around 1, they were all ready to go to the supermarket. We decided to go with a whole group to the big supermarket in the Messepark, because we were going to have a barbecue at Sabrina's place tonight and we wanted to bring some nice food. So we bought some burgers, chicken and beers and went back to the dorm. I still hadn't eaten my breakfast, so I made some croissants in the kitchen while Teresa was working on some real Mexican burritos. About five minutes after I finished my croissants, Teresa gave me a burrito. Of course I can't say no to that! For the record: Mexican burritos are definitely different from the burritos we make at home. Anyway, I had my lunch and breakfast all in about 20 minutes =D After that, I went to the swimming pool with the Spanish girls. We did some exercises and swam a lot, but then we went to the waterglide again haha! Great stuff. After swimming, I had to hurry because I had to get ready for the barbecue party :) Sabrina came to pick us up with her car and we had a great night with barbecueing. Her house is awesome and they even have a small garden house or something with a fireplace, where we had the barbecue! Oh, and they have a dog, Rocky, and he sat on my lap haha! Cool dog =D After some home-made schnaps Sabrina took us home and we went to Pavilion. Of course, we ended up in the Conrad Sohm again and got home around 5.
16.05.09 Even geen feestje, of toch / No more parties, or maybe one
Vanochtend heb ik even flink uitgeslapen, want ik was echt kapot van alle feestjes de afgelopen tijd haha! 's Ochtends even rustig aan gedaan en het grootste gedeelte van de dag besteed aan het schrijven van m'n blog, want ik liep alweer een week ofzo achter. In de middag kreeg ik een berichtje van Estefy, dat er een feest in de stad was: openingsfeest van een nieuwe skateboard winkel. Ondanks mijn goede voornemen klonk dat wel vet en besloten Teresa en ik rond een uurtje of 8 even een kijkje te nemen. Hop, gratis biertje in onze handen gedrukt. Toen gaf Hannes, een van de Oostenrijkse jongens, ons een rondleiding door 'zijn' winkel. Supervette winkel met leuke kleding, sneakers en skateboards. En nog een gratis biertje. Toen gaven ze gratis ijs aan iedereen, wat ik natuurlijk heeeeel vervelend vind. Toen kwamen ze met pizza en nog meer bier. Briljant. Langzamerhand verdween ons goede voornemen en kregen we weer zin in een feestje. Hannes besloot dat we langs Joey's appartement moesten (SUPER mooi appartment in de stad), want een van de jongens -professionele boarder van 17 jaar!- had zijn eindexamen gehaald en dat moest gevierd worden. Na een uurtje ofzo gingen we maar weer terug naar het feestje bij de winkel, waar Sabrina ook was. Dat was wel gezellig =D Uiteindelijk kregen we het een beetje koud in ons T-shirt, want het was inmiddels rond 11 uur en niet meer zo warm als 's middags. Sabrina bracht ons naar huis, waar er nog een feestje aan de gang was in de kamer van de Zweedse meisjes. Dus ging ik daar ook nog even langs om hoi te zeggen. Zij wilden de stad in gaan, maar toen besloot ik maar te gaan slapen. Het was rond 12 uur toen ik ging slapen, wat nog best netjes was :)
Today I slept for a very long time, because I was really exhausted from all the parties the last couple of weeks! I chilled out in the morning and spent most of my day writing my blog, because as you probably noticed I was far behind.. In the afternoon I got a message from Estefy telling me about a store opening in the city center. Not just a store, a new skateboard store with cool clothes and sneakers. In Dornbirn! So Teresa and I decided to go say hi to Hannes, one of the Austrian guys, who works there. We immediately got a free beer in our hands. All right! Hannes showed us around in the store and explained some cool things they were selling. Then we got some more free beer and ice-cream, which is of course very very unpleasant ;) Then they came with some pizza and more beer. Our party mood was almost back again! The 'guys' decided to go to Joey's apartment to drink some rum to celibrate one of the local snowboarders' graduation from high school. Seriously, that dude is 17 and is sponsored by some major brand =D Awesome. Joey's apartment is huge and very very nice. When we went back to the store after one hour or something, Sabrina was also at the party. In the end, we got cold in our T-Shirts (we weren't prepared for an outside party) and Sabrina drove us home. Then I ended up at a party in the Swedish girls' flat, who were celibrating the end of their exam week at the Fachochschule. Around 12 o'clock I decided it was enough for today and went to sleep :)
